11. Dealing with post travel blues

And how it might say something about your life quality

I’ve recently returned from a family trip to Thailand. I had a whale of a time. But the moment I reached home, I was hit with a pang of emptiness.

People call it the post-travel blues or post-trip depression. It’s a familiar feeling which always comes back to me at the end of my travels. And the stark difference between my before and during traveling routine could be the reason behind this melancholy.

I have quite a fixed routine on the day to day with limited time assigned for fun. When I travel, however, I’m spending almost 100% of my time on fun. Having tasted what’s 100% like, my body is not taking the shock well to realize I’m going back to the low 10% tomorrow.

Although it might seem like a normal feeling to have, this could be a sign that I’m not enjoying myself enough. If I were motivated enough, had fun enough and felt purposeful enough, I should feel excited and rejuvenated to get back to work.

Maybe I should reassess the alignment of my life values with what I do daily. Maybe I should play more and incorporate more fun into my daily routine. Maybe I should shake things up and make every day feel like an adventure.

Or maybe I’m just exhausted from the lack of sleep and will feel back on track tomorrow.
