62. Finding comfort in the uncertainty
We crave for certainty in everything we do. Who are we as a person, our passion, our future.
This causes unhappiness. We think that we should resort to an identity or expectation, that we need to always fill the hole in us. We give ourselves that pressure of needing to find one thing that we truly devote ourselves to. So when are not able to fulfill that hole, when our beliefs, values or principles waver, we feel lost.
But change and uncertainty are the only normal in life. You could be passionate technology today and want to be devote yourself to politics tomorrow. That is completely fine. We should not let ourselves be defined by a fixed set of values and interests. Learn recklessly. Stay foolish. Constantly explore and expose yourself to endless possibilities.
I’m not denying that it’s paramount to develop self-awareness — a good understanding of our strengths, weaknesses, what we want in life, what makes us happy. But we should be completely open to the fact that they will change. They will not stay constant. They will constantly evolve and develop.
And that’s the beauty of life, it’s fluid and ever-changing. So find comfort in uncertainty because it’s always here to stay. Don’t run away from it, embrace it.
